NEA RESEARCH PART 6- INSTITUTIONAL RESEARCH
In this post I will be researching the media institution linked in my chosen brief (SONY), focusing attention to the type of company they are and the type of media products that they produce. In addition I will look into how the company ethos is reflected in their products which will give me ideas on how I can then incorporate it into my own production of music video and website.
SONY:
-The name of the company I will be making my product for is SONY Music.
-Sony Music is a global recorded music company with a current roster that includes a broad array of both local artists and international superstars.
-The Chairman and CEO of Sony Music UK is Jason Iley.
-SONY produced media products which are auditory as they sign artists to the company.
- SONY Music is an American global music conglomerate owned by SONY and incorporated as a general partnership of Sony Music Holdings inc, which is a subsidiary of the Japanese Sony corporation.
- In the UK, labels such as Columbia, RCA, Syco, Commercial group, Red Essential, Relentless, Black Butter, Ministry Of Sound and Insanity all make up the Sony Music family.
-SONY Music make generate billions of pounds through recorded music, artists and the visual media and platform.
- In the past year Sony Music earned over $2 billion in streaming revenue.
-Sony Music Entertainment saw an increase in revenue of 22.3% on the previous year when it made $1.7 billion from streaming. Also in 2018, streaming made up 53% of all recorded music revenue for the company, an increase of 44% in the previous fiscal year.
-Sony Music mission: "to inspire the world to do great things through the influence of music by promoting inspirational melodies and lyrics".
Conclusion:
I will incorporate Sony Musics mission statement into my idea by choosing a song in which through my video and the lyrics it will inspire people by being inspirational, as music videos by Sony Music do.

NEA RESEARCH PART 5- MEDIA THEORY RESEARCH
NEA RESEARCH PART 5- MEDIA THEORY RESEARCH
In this post I will be researching 2 media products and linking them to media theories that we have previously learnt. From these media theories I will link it to the media products and how they make the text appealing to the intended audience. By doing this, it will help me when creating my own music video and linking it to media theories.
Taylor Swift- ME:
Throughout the Taylor Swift, Intertextuality has been used effectively to appeal to the intended audience. Intertextuality is used in media products to attract a wide range of audience as the audience is able to link the media product to other media products. In one of the scenes in the music video, Taylor has decided to recreate a well-known scene from Mary Poppins when she comes down from the sky on an umbrella. Mary Poppins is a classic Disney film, therefore by recreating a scene in the music video makes the music video more effective, interesting and allows the audience to make their own interpretation of the text through the use of intertextuality. In addition, the ME music video has also used intertextuality through the use of 'The Wizard of Oz' which is again another popular, well-known film. This therefore creates a more interesting music video, engaging a wider audience as well as the intended audience.
Another media theory that is used throughout the 'ME' music video is Van Zoonen's feminist theory. Van Zoonen believes that the media/ media products portray images of stereotypical women and this behaviour reinforces societal views. However, in the music video Taylor goes against this idea and rejects the idea of stereotypical ideas of women. She shows this in the video when she walks outside wearing a suit. A suit is stereotypical seen as what men should wear, for example when going to work. Therefore by having Taylor wear a suit is showing that it shouldn't be seen as only men should wear suits because that's the stereotype, so is trying to influence the audience to reject such stereotypes of women and break these dominant social values. In addition, everyone on the street surrounding is also wearing suit showing that there shouldn't be stereotypical differences in which the media and media products are portraying and they should in fact be equal which is what the music video is portraying.

Robin Thicke- Blurred Lines:
According to Laura Mulvey women are viewed from the eyes of a heterosexual man and are represented as passive objects of male desire where in the media products the camera lingers on the females body. Throughout this music video the females are majorly objectified and sexualised by wearing revealing, minimal clothing whereas the males are covered in suits. In addition, the females in the video strut and dance around acting quite sexual aswell as having 'THICKE" appear on the screen. The males in the video are treating the women as 'objects' by dancing around them and looking at them up and down in their minimal clothing. Therefore this links to the male gaze theory as women are being objectified by wearing revealing clothing and acting sexually, therefore attracting a male audience to the music video as they will be attracted by how the women are presented.
Conclusion:
One theory I may use in my music video is media effects by Bandura. This theory says that the media can influence people directly as well as indirectly so people can be influenced by media messages without being exposed to them. Therefore, within my music video this theory enables me to reflect a message which can be presented either directly or indirectly.

NEA Research Part 2- Genre Research- Genre Research
Task 1:
In this post I am going to summarise and condense research into the genre of my chosen brief. The main reason for doing this is to extensiate and analyse codes and conventions of a range of media texts in order to help me produce an effective media product of my own.
Task 2:

TASK 3: CONCLUSION
From my research, it is clear that music videos vary such as some being very natural and more natural scenes where as some consists of a lot of acting. The research helped me with my idea as it enabled me to gather a variety of ideas that i can include in my own music video. For example using a very natural dance clip like Ed Sheeran, as well as overlaying clips which consist of more acting such as Ariana and Little Mix. My idea has developed after conducting the research as it has enabled me to develop my ideas further and gain an understanding of what I need to include in my music video in order to make it successful.

- U: How to approach the chosen brief, including writing the statement of intent.
- BAT: Choose a brief and start planning what to write in the statement of intent.
- CO: Use media terminology (all areas of the theoretical framework) in your written and verbal communication.
Requirements:
• Statement of Intent
(approx. 500 words)1
• Music Video:
One, three minute music video.
• Distribution channel:
Content must be suitable for
broadcast on streaming sites
such as YouTube and age

Task 3:
I decided to select a music video after reading through all the briefs. This is because my skills will be better reflected through a music video than the others. Previously in lessons, we have done tasks which has allowed me to develop my skills further which I will be able to portray in my music video. Furthermore, after reading through the briefs, I discovered that the music video was best suited for me. Skills that will help me with creating my music video are; editing and recording skills, which are a main skill needed for creating my music video. Also, i have a variety of camera skills to do with different shots and camera movements which will help to develop my music video further.
